SolidRoll is a clear roll-down shutter. The slats are solid polycarbonate rather than fabric or vinyl, so when the shutter is down it stops wind, rain and dust the way a wall would — and you can still see straight through it. GP Automatic manufactures the system in Istanbul with its own proprietary design and has installed more than 62,000 systems to date.
US restaurants, bars, hotels and homeowners generally close a patio with clear vinyl roll-up curtains. This is the rigid version of that idea, and it behaves very differently.
Clear shutters vs. clear vinyl curtains
| SolidRoll clear shutter | Clear vinyl curtain | |
|---|---|---|
| اللوح | 4 mm solid polycarbonate slats | Flexible vinyl sheet |
| In wind | Rigid, held in side tracks | Billows, needs tie-downs |
| Clarity over time | UV stable — no yellowing or clouding | Yellows and clouds with sun and age |
| Operation | Motorized, one button | Rolled and strapped by hand |
| Security when closed | Impact-resistant physical barrier | None |
| Storage | Rolls into a headbox above the opening | Bulky roll left in place |
What it is made of
- 4 mm solid polycarbonate slats, 87% light transmission. Closed, the opening still reads as open — you keep the view, the daylight and, for a business, the visibility of what is inside.
- UV stable. The sheet does not yellow, fade or craze with sun exposure, which is the usual failure mode of vinyl.
- Impact and scratch resistant, and it holds its shape at high temperatures.
- Lighter than glass, so the structure it hangs from does not have to be rebuilt.
- Galvanized steel roller tube inside a galvanized painted steel headbox cover.
- Motorized, with a manual override. One button in normal use; during a power outage the shutter can still be opened and closed by hand.
- Aluminum profiles powder-coated in RAL 7016 anthracite, RAL 9016 white, RAL 9005 black, RAL 8019 brown or RAL 9006 grey.
A single module runs up to 6 m (19 ft 8 in) wide and 6 m high. Wider openings are divided into modules with a post between them, and the division is drawn for you before production.
Where it is used
- Restaurant and bar patios. Keeps outdoor covers usable through wind and rain instead of losing the tables for the evening.
- Hotel terraces and rooftop bars. The view is the product; a shutter that blocks it defeats the space.
- Storefronts. Closed after hours, the window display still sells while the glass is protected.
- Homes. Porches, lanais, balconies and pool houses — an outdoor room that works in shoulder seasons.
- Under a pergola. Fitted between the posts of a louvered pergola, it turns the structure into a four-season room.

Questions we get from US buyers
Does it yellow like vinyl?
No. The sheet is UV stabilised solid polycarbonate, and it is specified not to yellow, fade or craze in service.
What happens in a power outage?
The system is motorized, and it can still be opened and closed manually while the power is out.
Is it insulated?
A single-skin shutter stops wind, rain and dust and takes the chill off, but it is not a thermal window. For openings that need real insulation or a full scissor-type opening, ask us about SOLID PLUS instead.
How wide can one unit be?
Up to 6 m (19 ft 8 in) wide and 6 m high in a single module. Wider runs are split into modules with a post between them.
What determines the price?
Width and height, the motor, the headbox and track selection, the slat type and the installation conditions. That is why we price your openings rather than publish a per-square-foot number.
