This is the engineering page for G-Climatic — the mechanism, the numbers and the comparison against a conventional louvered pergola. For the product overview in your language, see the G-Climatic product page.
A 5–6 metre G-Climatic roof opens or closes in 15 to 20 seconds. A conventional louvered pergola of the same size takes four to five minutes. That is not a refinement of the same idea — it is a different machine underneath.
There is no belt and no chain
Almost every motorised pergola roof on the market rotates its louvers through a belt or a chain drive. Belts stretch. Chains need tensioning. Both are slow, both make noise, and both are the parts that fail first on a roof that gets opened several times a day.
G-Climatic does away with them. The panels are carried on a scissor linkage running on linear rails and carriages, driven by linear actuators. The load travels through the rails rather than hanging off a flexible drive, so the movement is even from end to end, there is nothing to stretch or tension, and the whole roof arrives at its position at once instead of louver by louver.
G-Climatic against a conventional louvered pergola
| G-Climatic | Conventional louvered pergola | |
|---|---|---|
| Opening time, 5–6 m span | 15–20 seconds | 4–5 minutes |
| Drive | Linear actuator | Belt or chain |
| Motion | Scissor linkage on linear rails and carriages | Each louver rotated in turn |
| Wear parts | No belts, no chains, no tensioners | Belts, chains, tensioners |
| Noise | Quiet — no mechanical clatter, no snatching | Audible drive noise |
| Power | Runs on local mains anywhere in the world | Usually one regional voltage |
| Snow load | 250 kg/m² | Varies |
| Installation, 4 × 7 m | About 2 hours | Most of a day |
Why fifteen seconds is not a detail
Weather does not give four minutes’ notice. On a restaurant terrace the roof has to be shut before the first table gets wet, not after. In a house, a roof that closes while you are still carrying the cushions inside is a roof people actually use; one that takes five minutes is one they stop bothering with by the second summer.
Speed also changes how often the roof gets moved. A system that responds instantly gets opened and closed several times a day to follow the sun. That is the whole point of an adjustable roof, and it is exactly the duty cycle that destroys a belt drive.
It runs on your mains, wherever you are
The drive works directly on local mains power anywhere in the world — no step-down transformer, no separate power pack, no rewiring the system for the market it is shipped to. For anyone importing outdoor structures this removes a step that normally has to be solved on site, and it means the same product leaves our plant for Phoenix, Dubai and Berlin without modification.
Power draw is very low. The actuators only work while the roof is moving, and there is no drive train to keep under tension in between.
Built for snow, sun and wind
- 250 kg/m² snow load. The scissor linkage transfers load into the rails and the frame rather than into a drive shaft, which is what allows the figure.
- Sun-breaker panels. The panels are profiled to cut the sun rather than simply block it, so with the roof part-open you get shade and airflow instead of a hot cavity underneath.
- High water-tightness. Closed, the panels seal into one another and the roof sheds water.
- Adjustable at any point. Fully open, fully closed, or anywhere between — set instantly rather than crept to.
Two hours to install
A 4 × 7 metre G-Climatic goes up in about two hours. No chain to route, no belt to tension, no drive to align along the span — the rails and carriages arrive set, and the actuators bolt in.
For a contractor that is the number that decides the economics. A system that takes most of a day is one job; a system that takes two hours is two or three jobs from the same crew, on the same day, with the same overhead. It is also far harder to install badly, which is what protects your reputation on the jobs you are not standing on.
Where it goes
Restaurants and cafés, hotel terraces and rooftop bars, villas, private terraces and gardens, and commercial frontages. Anywhere the roof has to earn its keep by being moved, not by being admired.
The perimeter can be closed in afterwards with motorized zip screens, vertical-lift or sliding glass, or SolidRoll clear roll-down shutters, turning the structure into a four-season room that still opens completely in summer.
Questions we get
Is this a bioclimatic pergola?
It does the same job and it is not built the same way. A bioclimatic pergola rotates individual louvers on a belt or chain. G-Climatic moves a scissor linkage on linear rails with linear actuators. Same control over sun and rain, a fraction of the time, and none of the drive-train wear parts.
What is the largest span?
Spans are engineered per project and larger areas are covered by joining modules with a shared post. Send us the width and projection and we lay the module division and post positions out on the shop drawing before anything is cut.
What maintenance does it need?
There is no belt to replace and no chain to tension, which is most of what maintenance on a motorised pergola normally means. Keep the rails clean and the drainage clear.
Can you supply outside Türkiye?
Yes. We manufacture in Istanbul and ship by sea container worldwide, and the system needs no electrical modification for the destination market. We confirm freight and transit time to your nearest port with the quotation.
