A bioclimatic pergola has a roof of rotating aluminium louvres. Open them and the terrace is shaded but ventilated; close them and the roof seals into a watertight surface that drains through the frame. GP Automatic has been manufacturing these systems in Istanbul since 1994.
What you are buying
- Structure: extruded aluminium, thermally stable, no rust and no annual treatment.
- Louvres: motorised rotation, closing into a sealed roof with concealed gutters in the beams and posts.
- Snow load: our G-Climatic series is engineered to 200 kg/m² (≈ 41 psf).
- Single module: up to 6000 × 4500 mm; larger areas are built from coupled modules on shared posts.
- Finish: standard anodised or any RAL powder coat.
The seven things that move the price
- Area and module count. One 6 × 4.5 m module costs less per square metre than two small ones covering the same area.
- Structure type. Free-standing on four posts, wall-attached on two, or a cantilever with no posts on the view side.
- Snow and wind load. A coastal terrace and a mountain site are not the same structure, even at the same size.
- Side closure. Zip screens, sliding glass, guillotine glass or Solidroll transparent shutters between the posts.
- Lighting and heating. Perimeter or louvre-integrated LED, and infrared heaters mounted into the beam.
- Automation. Rain and wind sensors that close the roof unattended, plus app or home-automation control.
- Install conditions. Foundation work, access for the crew, and how far the site is from the plant.
Three typical scopes
- Bare roof. Structure and motorised louvres only, open on all sides — the lowest entry point, and the one most quotes are based on.
- Season-extended. Roof plus LED, plus zip screens on the two windward sides. Usable from early spring to late autumn.
- Year-round room. Roof plus glazed or Solidroll side closure, lighting and heating. Effectively an outdoor room in continuous use.
An honest note: anyone quoting a firm price per square metre without seeing the site is quoting the bare roof. Ask what is included before comparing two numbers.
Why buy from the manufacturer
We extrude, machine, powder-coat and assemble in our own plant, so there is no intermediary margin in the quotation, lead times are ours to control, and spare parts stay available for the life of the system. Engineering questions get answered by the people who designed the profile.
Getting a quote
Send the terrace dimensions and a photo of the area on WhatsApp — we come back the same day with a range, and with a firm quotation once the structural conditions are clear.
Frequently asked
Is it really watertight when closed?
Yes. The louvres close onto gaskets and the water runs into channels inside the louvre, then into the beams and down through the posts. There is no visible downpipe.
What happens in snow?
G-Climatic is engineered for 200 kg/m². In heavy snowfall the louvres are opened to let snow fall through rather than accumulate on the roof — that is the intended operating procedure, not a failure.
Does it need a building permit?
That depends entirely on your local code, and it differs by country and municipality. In Türkiye most garden pergolas within defined limits are exempt; elsewhere, check with your local authority before ordering.
