Solidroll is a patented transparent shutter: instead of aluminium slats you get 4 mm solid polycarbonate, so the opening stays closed to wind, rain and dust while you keep looking straight through it. It is the product GP Automatic is known for, and it is manufactured in our own Istanbul plant.
What a transparent shutter actually is
A conventional roller shutter closes the opening and the view together. Solidroll separates the two. The curtain is built from extruded solid polycarbonate profiles that pass roughly 87% of visible light, so a closed terrace or storefront stays bright and stays visible. Polycarbonate is also why it does not shatter: it takes an impact that would break glass of the same thickness.
Sizes and limits
- Solidroll Pro: up to 6 m (19’8″) wide and 6 m high in a single unit — wider openings are covered with coupled units sharing one guide line.
- Drive: motorised only. There is no hand-cranked version, but every unit ships with a manual override crank so it still opens during a power cut.
- Control: remote, wall switch, or integration with an existing home automation system.
- Mounting: onto an existing pergola beam, a masonry opening, or a new aluminium frame we supply with the system.
What drives the price
We quote per project rather than off a list, because the same square metre costs differently depending on the job. The variables that move the number:
- Opening size and count. Cost per square metre falls as the opening grows and as the number of identical units rises — a five-bay restaurant terrace is not five times a single bay.
- Curtain material. Full transparent polycarbonate, or a mixed curtain with aluminium slats in the lower section for privacy and security.
- Motor and control package. Standard tubular motor, or a heavier motor with rain and wind sensors that closes the system automatically.
- Mounting condition. A prepared beam with power already run is a different install from a masonry opening that needs a new carrier frame.
- Finish. Standard anodised or any RAL powder coat.
- Destination. For export orders, freight, duties and on-site labour are quoted separately from the system itself.

Frequently asked
Is a transparent shutter the same as a transparent roller blind?
No. A roller blind is fabric or PVC on a fabric roller. Solidroll is a rigid shutter curtain made from solid polycarbonate profiles running in aluminium guides, with a shutter motor and a locking bottom rail.
Does it break like glass?
Solid polycarbonate has far higher impact resistance than glass of the same thickness and does not shatter into fragments. It scratches more easily than glass, so it is cleaned with water and a soft cloth, not with abrasives or solvents.
Can it be fitted to a pergola that is already built?
Usually yes — the head box and guides mount onto the existing beams and posts as long as they can carry the load and the geometry is square. Send photos of the structure and we will tell you before you order.
How does it behave in a power cut?
Every unit includes a manual override crank, so the shutter can be opened and closed by hand with no power.
